Digital Soil Mapping in El Salvador

Strategic Communications Manager

Catholic Relief Services

Technical Brief

Social Media

Overview
I led the end-to-end development of the Digital Soil Mapping content package, designed to showcase how geospatial technology is transforming agriculture in El Salvador. Recognizing the need to communicate a highly technical process to a broad audience—from policymakers to farmers—I crafted a content strategy that translated complex soil science into accessible, action-oriented storytelling.

Scope of Work
I conducted all field research and interviews in Spanish, engaging directly with farmers, government officials, and technical experts to ensure the story reflected both innovation and local relevance. I captured original photography that visually demonstrated the mapping process in action and complemented the narrative with grounded, human-centered perspectives. To maximize reach and impact, I scripted and directed accompanying video content, authored a long-form feature story, and translated all materials into Spanish.

Results
The package was distributed across multiple platforms, including social media, internal donor channels, and CRS.org, and has since been used to inform policy conversations, support scaling efforts, and strengthen external engagement with donors and partners. The Fertile Ground brief was used in a meeting with a donor that resulted in $3.5 million investment in CRS´landscape restoration work.
